Product Introduction
420 Stainless Steel Plate is a higher-carbon martensitic stainless steel, essentially a harder and more wear-resistant version of the general-purpose 410. Its defining characteristic is a higher minimum chromium content (typically 12-14%) coupled with a higher carbon content (≥0.15%). This composition allows it to achieve significantly higher hardness and strength levels after heat treatment compared to 410, making it a premier choice for applications requiring excellent edge retention, abrasion resistance, and load-bearing capability under moderate corrosion conditions.
Commonly supplied in the annealed (soft) condition for machining, it is almost always heat-treated before being placed into service. While it offers better corrosion resistance than many tool steels, it is not suitable for harsh chemical or marine environments. Its primary domain is in cutting implements, wear parts, and precision mechanical components where durability is paramount.
