Product Introduction
409 Stainless Steel Plate is a titanium-stabilized ferritic stainless steel, engineered primarily for its exceptional value and balance of properties in moderately corrosive, high-temperature environments. Its dominant application is in automotive exhaust systems, where it must withstand a combination of heat, road salts, condensation, and corrosive combustion gases.
As a ferritic steel, it is magnetic and offers advantages like lower thermal expansion and higher thermal conductivity than common austenitic steels. The addition of titanium (Ti) stabilizes the alloy by combining with carbon and nitrogen, preventing chromium depletion and providing good resistance to intergranular corrosion. This, combined with its significantly lower cost (due to the absence of nickel), makes 409 a workhorse material for applications where the superior corrosion resistance of 304 is not strictly required.
