Product Introduction
309 & 309S Stainless Steel Plate are high-performance austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steels designed for exceptional service at elevated temperatures . The defining characteristic of this grade series is its elevated alloy content, providing a superior combination of oxidation resistance, heat resistance, and corrosion resistance compared to common grades like 304.
Type 309 serves as the base alloy, while Type 309S is its low-carbon variant. The key difference is that 309S features a reduced carbon content (≤0.08%), which minimizes carbide precipitation during welding and high-temperature exposure. This makes 309S the preferred choice for applications involving welding or operating in the sensitization temperature range, as it offers improved resistance to intergranular corrosion without requiring post-weld heat treatment.
These alloys are intended primarily for high-temperature applications at 816°C (1500°F) or higher, where resistance to oxidation (scaling) and corrosion is paramount. They retain good mechanical strength at both room and elevated temperatures and are essentially non-magnetic in the annealed condition.
