Product Introduction

316L is the low-carbon "welding-grade" variant of the standard 316 molybdenum-bearing stainless steel. The key defining feature is its carbon content of 0.030% maximum, which provides exceptional resistance to intergranular corrosion following welding or stress-relieving heat treatment.

This alloy combines all the advantages of Type 316 – including superior resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride environments – with enhanced weldability. It is the premier choice for heavy-gauge welded components and fabrications that will operate in aggressive chemical, marine, and high-temperature service where post-weld annealing is not feasible.
