With 16-18% chromium and no nickel, 430 represents the most widely used ferritic stainless steel in bar form, offering a practical balance between performance and affordability for applications where the superior corrosion resistance of 304 is unnecessary. Its ferritic structure provides natural resistance to stress corrosion cracking and maintains consistent mechanical properties, making it suitable for specific automotive, appliance, and industrial applications.
Available in rounds, squares, flats, hexagons, and special shapes, 430 stainless steel bar is particularly valued for its magnetic properties, consistent thermal expansion (similar to carbon steel), and ease of fabrication. While its corrosion resistance is limited compared to austenitic grades—particularly in chloride-containing environments—430 performs well in indoor atmospheres, mild outdoor conditions, and applications involving organic acids.
