Titanium Alpha-Beta Alloy (Ti-6Al-4V) Coil/Strip

The coiled form of the premier high-strength titanium alloy.

Common Supply Condition

Mill Annealed (Soft Condition). This is the standard supply condition for all forming and machining. Can be further Solution Treated & Aged (STA) after fabrication for higher strength.

Most coil is used in the mill-annealed condition for optimal formability and toughness.

Aluminum (Al) increases strength and stability. Vanadium (V) enhances hardenability and ductility.

Tensile Strength (Rm): 895 - 1000 MPa
Yield Strength (Rp0.2): 828 - 930 MPa
Elongation (A): 10 - 15%
After STA (Typical):
• Tensile: 1100 - 1200 MPa
• Yield: 1000 - 1100 MPa

Strength is approximately double that of CP Grade 2 coil, with a density of only 4.43 g/cm³.

Key Performance Attributes

• Excellent High Strength-to-Weight Ratio & Fatigue Strength.• Good corrosion resistance similar to CP titanium in oxidizing/chloride environments.
• Immune to chloride stress corrosion cracking (Cl-SCC).• Fair formability in annealed condition (hot forming preferred for complex shapes).

Key Standards (Strip/Coil)

ASTM B265 / ASME SB-265 (Grade 5), AMS 4911 (Aerospace Sheet/Strip - most common), MIL-T-9046

AMS 4911 is the leading aerospace procurement standard for mill-annealed sheet/coil.

Formability & Welding

Formability is fair; requires more force and careful tooling than Grade 2. Complex shapes often need hot forming (~700-800°C). Weldable using GTAW with strict argon shielding, but weld strength is typically lower than base metal.

Fabrication requires more expertise and control than with CP titanium coils.

• Medical: Blanks for orthopedic implants (further machined), surgical tool components.
• Consumer Electronics: High-strength, lightweight housings and frames.
