Commercially Pure Titanium (Alpha Alloy, Unalloyed) Coil/Strip

The coiled form of the most versatile and widely used pure titanium grade.

Common Forms & Tempers

Forms: Cold Rolled Coil (Strip), Annealed Pickled Coil.
Temper: Annealed (Soft) is standard. Can be supplied in Hard or ½ Hard temper for increased strength in spring or shim applications.

The annealed condition offers maximum ductility for deep drawing and complex forming.

N (Nitrogen): ≤ 0.03

Interstitial elements (O, Fe) directly control strength and ductility. Grade 2 has a balanced level for optimal properties.

Mechanical Properties (By Temper, Room Temp)

Annealed (Soft):
• Tensile: 345 - 483 MPa min
• Yield: 275 - 414 MPa min
• Elongation: 20% min
Hard Temper (Typical):
• Tensile: 550 - 700 MPa
• Yield: 480 - 620 MPa
• Elongation: 5 - 12%

Lower strength than alloyed grades but with superior ductility. Hard temper offers good spring properties.

Key Corrosion Resistance

• Exceptional resistance to chlorides, seawater, and brine, immune to chloride stress corrosion cracking (Cl-SCC).
• Excellent resistance to oxidizing environments (e.g., nitric acid, chromic acid).
• Good resistance to weak reducing acids and alkalis.• ⚠️ Poor resistance to reducing acids (e.g., non-aerated HCl, H₂SO₄) without inhibitors.

Its resistance to seawater and wet chlorine is legendary, surpassing stainless steels and copper alloys.

ASTM B265 is the primary specification for titanium coil products.

Formability & Welding

Excellent. In the annealed temper, it can be deep drawn, stamped, and roll-formed with ease. It is also highly weldable using all common techniques (GTAW, laser) without post-weld heat treatment.

Ease of fabrication is a major advantage, enabling complex, lightweight designs.
