The 430 stainless steel coil is one of the most commonly used ferritic stainless steel coils. Its core feature is that it does not contain nickel, which makes its cost much lower than that of austenitic stainless steel coils such as 304. At the same time, it has excellent corrosion resistance (especially resistance to stress corrosion cracking), thermal conductivity, and formability.

430 Stainless Steel Coil is a cost-effective ferritic stainless steel that provides good corrosion resistance, excellent formability, and aesthetic appeal at a significantly lower cost than nickel-containing austenitic grades. With 16-18% chromium and no nickel, 430 represents the most widely used ferritic stainless steel, offering a practical balance between performance and affordability for applications where the superior corrosion resistance of 304 is unnecessary. Its ferritic structure provides natural resistance to stress corrosion cracking and maintains consistent mechanical properties across a range of temperatures.

Supplied in continuous coil form, 430 stainless steel is particularly valued for its excellent deep-drawing characteristics, making it ideal for formed components, decorative trim, and appliances. While its corrosion resistance is limited compared to austenitic grades—particularly in chloride-containing environments—430 performs well in indoor atmospheres, mild outdoor conditions, and applications involving organic acids. The grade's magnetic properties, consistent thermal expansion (similar to carbon steel), and ease of fabrication make it a versatile choice for manufacturers seeking stainless steel benefits without the premium cost of nickel-alloyed grades.
