Developed as a more affordable alternative to 304 stainless steel, 201 maintains good corrosion resistance and formability while reducing material costs by approximately 20-30%. This grade is particularly suitable for applications where high corrosion resistance is not the primary requirement, but good mechanical properties, aesthetic appeal, and cost-effectiveness are essential.

Supplied in continuous coil form, 201 stainless steel offers excellent value for manufacturers seeking to optimize production costs without sacrificing the basic benefits of stainless steel. Its manganese content (5.5-7.5%) and nitrogen addition help stabilize the austenitic structure while reducing the nickel content, making it less sensitive to nickel price fluctuations. While not recommended for harsh corrosive environments or food contact applications requiring 304/316 grades, 201 performs well in indoor architectural applications, decorative items, and general consumer goods where appearance and moderate corrosion resistance are sufficient.
