Commercially Pure Titanium (Alpha Alloy, Unalloyed)

The standard, ductile grade of pure titanium.

Common Forms

Seamless Pipe (SMLS) & Welded Pipe are both extensively used.
• Seamless: Preferred for high-pressure, critical corrosion, and high-purity services.
• Welded (ASME SB-862): Cost-effective for large diameters, seawater lines, and non-critical pressure applications.

Welded pipe is common for large-scale seawater systems; seamless for high-integrity process lines.

O (Oxygen): ≤ 0.25
Fe (Iron): ≤ 0.30
C (Carbon): ≤ 0.08
N (Nitrogen): ≤ 0.03
H (Hydrogen): ≤ 0.015

Interstitial elements (O, Fe) directly control strength and ductility. Grade 2 has a balanced level.

Mechanical Properties (Annealed, Room Temp)

Tensile Strength (Rm): 345 - 483 MPa min
Yield Strength (Rp0.2): 275 - 414 MPa min
Elongation (A): 20% min

Lower strength than alloyed grades but with superior ductility. Excellent for tube expanding and bending.

Density: 4.51 g/cm³
Melting Point: ~1660 °C
Service Temperature: Up to ~300°C (570°F) for continuous service in non-creep applications.

~45% lighter than steel and ~60% heavier than aluminum, with excellent specific strength.

Key Corrosion Resistance

• Exceptional resistance to chlorides, seawater, and brine, immune to chloride stress corrosion cracking (Cl-SCC).
• Excellent resistance to oxidizing environments (e.g., nitric acid, chromic acid).
• Good resistance to weak reducing acids and alkalis.

•  Poor resistance to reducing acids (e.g., non-aerated HCl, H₂SO₄) without inhibitors or oxidants.

Its resistance to seawater and wet chlorine is legendary, surpassing stainless steels and copper alloys.

Seamless Pipe: ASTM B861 / ASME SB-861 (Standard Specification for Titanium and Titanium Alloy Seamless Pipe)
Welded Pipe: ASTM B862 / ASME SB-862 (Welded Pipe)

ASTM B861 is the primary specification for seamless pipe. ASTM B862 for welded.

OD Range: 1/8" NPS to 24" NPS+
Wall Thickness: Sch 5S, 10S, 40S, 80S, 160 (per ASME B36.19M)
Length: Random, Double Random, Cut to Length.

Available in a full range of standard piping schedules. Thin walls (Sch 5S/10S) are standard for heat exchanger tubing.

Fittings & Fabrication

Compatible with ASTM B363 wrought fittings (seamless or welded). Excellent weldability using GTAW (TIG) with proper argon shielding, no post-weld heat treatment needed.

Forms complete, highly corrosion-resistant piping systems with ease of fabrication.
