Inconel 625 Bar is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum-niobium superalloy bar stock renowned for its exceptional combination of high strength, excellent fatigue resistance, and outstanding corrosion resistance in a wide range of severe environments, including seawater, chemical process streams, and high-temperature oxidizers. Its strength is derived from the solid-solution strengthening effects of molybdenum and niobium, allowing it to maintain impressive mechanical properties from cryogenic temperatures up to about 1000°C (1830°F) without requiring precipitation hardening. It is the premier material for high-strength, corrosion-resistant machined and forged components.

Common Forms (Bar)

Hot Finished, Forged, or Cold Finished Rounds, Hexagons, Squares, Rectangles. Also supplied as Billet for forging.

Available in a wide range of diameters and cross-sections. Forged bar offers superior grain structure for critical parts.

Cr: 20.0 - 23.0
Mo: 8.0 - 10.0
Nb (+Ta): 3.15 - 4.15
Fe: ≤ 5.0
C: ≤ 0.10

Molybdenum (Mo) provides resistance to pitting and reducing acids. Niobium (Nb) imparts high as-fabricated strength and stabilizes against sensitization.

Mechanical Properties (Annealed, Room Temp)

Tensile Strength (Rm): 830 - 1030 MPa
Yield Strength (Rp0.2): 415 - 690 MPa
Elongation (A): 30 - 55%
Hardness: Typically 95-110 HRB

Noticeably higher strength than Inconel 600/601 at all temperatures. Excellent for high-stress components.

Density: 8.44 g/cm³
Melting Range: 1290 - 1350 °C
Max Continuous Service Temp: ~1000°C (1830°F) for oxidation resistance.

Maintains excellent mechanical properties over a very wide temperature range.

Key Corrosion Resistance

• Exceptional resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in chloride solutions.

• Excellent resistance to a wide range of acids, alkalis, and salts, including seawater, sulfuric, and phosphoric acids.

• Good oxidation resistance at high temperatures.

Key Standards (Bar)

ASTM B446 / ASME SB-446 (Standard Specification for Nickel-Chromium-Molybdenum-Columbium Alloy Rod and Bar), AMS 5666 (Aerospace)

ASTM B446 is the primary specification for bar products.

Common Sizes & Conditions

Diameter/Thickness: 5mm (0.2") up to 500mm (20")+ for forged rounds.
Condition: Annealed (Solution Annealed), Hot Finished, or Cold Drawn. Can be supplied in strain-hardened tempers.

The Annealed condition is standard for most machining. Cold drawn bar offers better surface finish and tighter tolerances.

Machinability & Fabrication

Machinability Rating: ~30% (slightly better than 600/601 due to higher strength reducing gumminess). Still work-hardens; requires rigid setups, positive rake carbide tools, and heavy, continuous feeds.
Weldability: Excellent, using matching filler metal (ERNiCrMo-3).

Machining is challenging but manageable with correct parameters. Post-machining stress relief may be needed for complex parts.
