Hastelloy X Bar is a nickel-chromium-iron-molybdenum-cobalt alloy bar stock engineered for exceptional high-temperature strength, oxidation resistance, and thermal fatigue resistance up to 1200°C (2200°F). It is optimized for gas turbine engine components, combustion systems, and industrial furnace applications where both extreme temperature and structural integrity are paramount. Its solid-solution strengthened structure provides outstanding creep rupture strength and load-bearing capability, making it the premier bar material for machining high-temperature bolts, turbine blades, furnace fixtures, and high-stress components.

Hot Rolled, Forged, or Cold Finished Rounds, Hexagons, Squares. Also as Forging Billet for critical aerospace components.

Available in a wide range of diameters; forged bar offers superior grain flow for demanding applications.

High Cr for oxidation resistance. Mo, Co, and controlled C contribute to solid-solution strength and carbide formation for high-temperature stability.

Yield Strength (Rp0.2): 310 - 480 MPa
Elongation (A): 35 - 55%

Retains a high percentage of its room-temperature strength at elevated temperatures.

Max Continuous Service Temp: 1200°C (2200°F) in oxidizing atmospheres.

ASTM B572 / ASME SB-572 (Rod & Bar), AMS 5758 (Aerospace Bar, Forging Stock), DIN 2.4665

AMS 5758 is a key aerospace procurement standard for forging-quality bar stock.

Common Sizes & Conditions

Diameter/Thickness: 6mm (0.25") up to 300mm (12")+ for hot rolled/forged.
Condition: Hot Rolled, Annealed, or Solution Heat Treated. The annealed condition is standard for machining.

Often supplied as hot-rolled and annealed round bar for general machining, or as forging billet for aerospace parts.

Machinability & Fabrication

Machinability Rating: ~20-25% (difficult). Highly abrasive and work-hardening. Requires rigid setups, positive rake carbide tools, slow speeds, and heavy, constant feeds.
Weldability: Good, using Hastelloy X welding products (e.g., HASTELLOY® X Filler Metal).

Machining is challenging but standard for high-temperature superalloys. All heavy machining should be done in the annealed condition.

Typical Bar Applications

• Aerospace (Primary Market): Turbine blades, vanes, combustion chamber parts, afterburner components, high-temperature bolts and fasteners.
• Industrial Furnaces: Rolls, trays, fixtures, retorts, radiant tube supports, fan shafts.
• Power Generation: Combustion liner components, transition ducts for land-based turbines.
• Heat Treating: High-temperature fixture components.

The dominant bar material for high-temperature, high-strength machined and forged components in jet engines and thermal processing.
