301 Stainless Steel Pipe is a specialized austenitic stainless steel engineered to achieve exceptionally high strength through cold working while maintaining good corrosion resistance. With a carefully balanced chromium-nickel composition (16-18% Cr, 6-8% Ni) that promotes the transformation of austenite to martensite during deformation, 301 can develop tensile strengths exceeding 1500 MPa when fully hard-worked, while maintaining the corrosion resistance and non-magnetic properties characteristic of the 300 series. This unique work-hardening capability makes it the material of choice for piping applications requiring high strength-to-weight ratios, excellent spring properties, and structural performance without heat treatment.

Available primarily in welded configurations due to its work-hardening characteristics, 301 stainless steel pipe offers manufacturers the flexibility to select the optimal strength-ductility balance for their specific forming requirements through various temper conditions. The grade's ability to develop strength through cold rolling rather than heat treatment enables cost-effective production of high-strength components while maintaining good corrosion resistance and formability.
